Gathering Pipeline Mapping

Safety, compliance and operational efficiencies were desired when Mr. Seifarth initiated this project while employed at CNX Gas. As a result of an aggressive CBM development plan, CNX Gas had installed nearly 200 miles of gathering lines over a 5 year period. To determine the location of these lines and collect pertinent attributes, a rigorous field data collection effort was initiated. Trimble Geo-XH field GPS was used to collect asset location data utilizing a project specific data dictionary.

Field data collection activities were conducted over a 14 month period by two field teams. Asset data collection included the following:

• Roads
• Power lines and poles
• Water lines
• Tanks
• Gas lines and associated facilities (drips, valves, and meters)
• Well locations

Photographs were obtained at each feature and geo-referenced to the facility network. The field data was processed into a GIS database and integrated into CNX’s operational base maps. The dataset became an integral part of the northern Appalachia operations and was also used to assist in the handling of One-call location requests.
